Jerry Kelly made the All-City hockey team selection in high school but ventured into golf when he was in the University of Hartford and his teammates at the time included current TOUR members Tim Petrovic and Patrick Sheehan. Along with Zach Johnson, Kelly was instrumental in starting the PGA TOUR Flood Relief effort, an initiative to provide support to communities in the Midwest that were affected by floods in the summer of 2008. He also donated funds, toured parts of devastated areas and also had a hand in raising public awareness and support. Besides playing golf professionally, Kelly also volunteers as an assistant golf coach at the University of Wisconsin.
